We have had a major response to our offer of financial grants to NYC Schools. Over 100 schools, representing over 50,000 students have submitted completed grant applications, with more coming in daily! The enthusiastic response from NYC and the other school districts we’ve solicited to date certainly bears out the rationale for our grants program: That schools — especially Title I schools physical education programs– are vastly underfunded and in need of support. We are definitely addressing an unmet need.
Here are some typical “asks” seen in our grant applications: Athletic trophies, music and video equipment to support workouts, soccer balls, footballs, basketballs, croquet sets, funds to hire fitness coaches and support for non-traditional “sports” such as yoga, rock climbing dance, and our favorite –mini-obstacle courses (ropes, cones, hurdles, nets and tires).etc.
While we are unfortunately unable to fund all grant applications, as stated in the grant application, ALL applicants will receive a quantity of free tickets to a local Spartan Race. Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, ticketing would have been for the annual Spartan Race at Citi Field on April 4-5. That race has, of course, been cancelled. We hope to reschedule it for this fall, ideally in October. We will notify you when the race will be rescheduled and send along a special code that you can use for free tickets for your kids.
